Land Acknowledgment

The Puyallup Tribe of Indians have lived along the shores of the Puget Sound in Washington State for thousands of years. The land that we now occupy in Tacoma and in neighboring cities is part of the Puyallup Tribe’s ancestral homeland. Though the Medicine Creek Treaty of 1854 removed native peoples to clear way for colonial settlement, the Puyallup Tribe has lived on. They live among us… they work, raise their children, practice their traditional ways, and speak the Twulshootseed language – as their ancestors did.

Acknowledging the history of the land and of it’s original inhabitants is one small step toward true allyship with the Indigenous people in our community and toward stewardship of the land itself. Tacoma Aroma Flavor commits to the ongoing work of uplifting Native communities, and of protecting the land and resources that sustain us all.
