Tacoma Arts Month | A visual feast

Like to color? Color the Tacoma Spoonscape, designed by Ric Matthies!

As I watch talented local chefs and mixologists create dishes and drinks for the upcoming Tacoma Aroma Cookbook/Dining Guide, the thought regularly occurs to me that they are artists. Not just “culinary artists” but visual artists, who’s plated “works” could be framed and hung in a gallery. I have this thought. I admire the artistry. And then, of course, I eat it!

In celebration of their edible and quaffable art, Tacoma Aroma Flavor is offering a visual feast of photography and fun during 2019 Tacoma Arts Month.

First up, drop by for a mouthwatering preview of images captured by Genevieve Denise during photo shoots with our recipe contributors. Court House Square has generously offered space for a pop-up exhibit in the corridor outside of en Rama: 1102 A Street, Suite 220, Tacoma, WA 98402. The exhibit is on display through October, during Court House Square’s hours of operation: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. or later, depending on the day.

>>Vote for your favorite images at tacomaaromaflavor.com/tacomaartsmonth to enter the prize-drawing for a $50 gift certificate!

>>If you visit the exhibit in person, remember to take photos and tag #TacomaAromaFlavor, and #TacomaArtsMonth!

Then, on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5-8 p.m. during the Tacoma Artwalk, I’ll be hosting the exhibit. Drop by to learn about the project, pick up your free dining guide bookmarks, and participate in a selfie/Boomarang photo op. Details are still being finalized, so watch Instagram and the Facebook event for updates.

Last but not least is a coloring contest!

Add your artistic impressions to the Tacoma “Spoonscape” coloring card and enter to win a prize! Color while you dine at Happy Belly, Marzano Italian Restaurant, Pimienta Bistro, Tibbitts@Fernhill, and the Proctor Farmer’s Market when you visit Jan Parker Cookery. Check their websites for information about location and hours of operation.

Coloring cards are available Oct. 1-22 at participating locations. Instructions for entering the contest are on the back of the coloring card, but here’s what to expect…

  1. After the artwork is complete, take a photo.
  2. Post the photo to Instagram and/or Facebook.
  3. Use the hashtag #TacomaSpoonscape and tag the restaurant.
  4. Include the artist’s age + name or nickname.

Only one entry per artist, please. Winners will be determined by number of votes (likes) for each valid entry. Results will be tabulated and announced on Oct. 27, 2019 via @Tacoma.Aroma.Flavor. on Instagram and Facebook.

Thanks for joining in on the fun. I look forward to seeing you during #TacomaArtsMonth!
Cheers,
Kris
